Why have the last two weeks been special to me. I will note down some points.
1) We have achieved what, till before the elections, was looking seemingly impossible even to the experts. We have a stable and a non-hung government at the centre.
2) We have removed the age-old communists from not only the government, but from their strange hold of West Bengal.
3) The coming to politics of the youth seems to be happening. From Agatha Sangma to Milind Deora and Sachin Pilot, led by the ever effervescent and strong-headed Rahul Gandhi - their emergence and staking claims in cabinet formation seems to have created positive feeling all around the country.
4) People are now hopeful and thinking into the future - thinking of what reforms the government is bringing, thinking what developments are in process. Instead of doing what is natural and obvious with every individual Indian - negative criticism of the centre.
5) Rahul as the worker, Sonia as the Chairman and Singh as the CEO seem to be a deadly combo to take the growth story of India even further.(The last fiscal year saw India growing at 6.7% despite the recession).
6) One more good thing from my perspective is that, Indian voters have been able to sort out who is the best, who has worked the most and who only speaks. The best in terms of performance, non-criminal records and talent have been elected this time. The saffron league, Left League and the criminal Yadavs have been given a strong signal this time to stay away from their detrimental politics.
7) Talking about everything and not mentioning the success story in my birthplace, my own backyard would be a story with broken paths. This story seems to echo everywhere. The confidence with which Naveen embarked on the journey leaving behind old-league partners BJP is inspiring. And despite this, he has been able to hoist the flag high enough by securing himself a third term in the assembly. Naveen Babu, we Oriya are proud of what you have been and are doing. If you have seen Bhubaneswar 3 years ago and happen to see it now, you will know why people have got him re-elected.
8) Going away from politics, IPL2 has yet another time come out with flying colors. It was even grander than IPL1. This despite our own country not supporting its message due to elections being held at the same time, when it had to go and find shores in friendly RSA. Lalit Modi has shown what good business acumen can do to as classic a game as cricket. He has also shown how the once unattended India's talent can be tapped, instead of fishing them all the way in only warm waters like Maharashtra and Gujarat and UP.
I have started saluting people for what they have done for us. This time my heart goes out to salute these people.
Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Agatha Sangma, Meenakshi Natarajan, Sachin Pilot, Kaliketa Singh Deo, Jatin Prasada, Shiela Dixit, Miling Deora, Sarath Babu, Capt Gopinath. In cricket, the following people played some really good cricket in IPL. Rohit Sharma, Manish Pandey, RP Singh, Pragyan Ojha and Anil Kumble.
I salute all these people.
