Hoping that MS's next best thing will bring some cheer to my heart, I was eagerly waiting for the launch of Bing. However, Bing has been a clear cut dissappointment to me. It has neither the simplicity nor the audacity of Google homepage. Neither the emotional touch that brings Google close to everyone's heart that is often felt with long-standing relationships.
Just have a look at the buttons on the home page Web, Images, News, More. And compare with how many things you lay yourself on while you are on Google home. Blogger, Orkut, Gmail, Picasa, Notebook, Labs, Scholar, Code, etc etc and the list goes on. The next addition is again a fantastic thing called Google Wave. To make a point, just click on the "More" button on the two websites and you will know the difference.
The reason why MS is so far behind in the Web marketplace is because of its late entry and late realisation that only a superior OS and market monopoly cannot make the wild-old horse move forward.
The only good thing that I have heard from the market leaders in monopolies is Surface Computing. And with lots of acquisitions in BI and no vision rather - the only probable force driving them being stronger market grasp, we cannot expect it to come close to Oracle in near future.
The only good thing coming from their space is - Gemini. I will tell u more about this in later posts.
